2 Timothy 1:6-7
"Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
I love this theme and scripture.
It is very relevant I believe for 2020 and the season we find this world in.
This scripture speaks to the life of the believer.
Paul speaking to Timothy, I remind you to stir up the gift of God…..
Who needs to be reminded today?
1. We all have unique delightful gifts, perspectives, purpose’s that God has created each one with
I want to encourage you to Value Your gift, seek out to understand and know ‘Your gift of God’. As Fideliz mentioned in her video post mentors and coaches are given to us to help this. The laying on of hands suggests there is impartation and catching from others.
2. Stir it up
The Stirring up speaks to a few things I believe.
We choose, we have a choice, we decide to stir it up or not.
This always takes faith in God to stir up what God has given us.
Hebrews 11:6 says it is impossible to please God without faith.
Faith to believe our gifts are from God. Faith to stir up and activate what God has placed within us! So many people can have gifts lying dormant where they doubt themselves or even God.
What is lying dormant within you today that needs faith to be stirred up?
Or what do you understand that is within you that God wants to bring a new strength and empowerment to? Stir it Up!
(open up this gift that God has given you)
3. Stir up your faith
Faith is a gift from God that we chose to build and activate as well. Is God encouraging you to stir up the gift of faith to believe for something that was promised but seems out of reach? Would you dare to Stir up faith within you!?
This takes boldness and sometimes choosing to not doubt yourself and God. Are you ready to choose to not doubt? Doubt can sometimes come with fear. Can we choose Faith and not doubt and fear? Stir up the Gift of Faith in this season.
4. Gifts are given not earned
God gives us good things it says in Matt 7:9-11.
The nature of God is that he wants to bless us and cause us to be strengthen, encouraged, and empowered.
5. This scripture says God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Fear can overwhelm us sometimes. It’s like its voice can be much louder and intrusive. Most of the time fears voice comes full of doubt and overwhelm. It is important to recognise where this voice comes from.
Fear and everything else that may come with fear, like discouragement, doubt, hopelessness, disempowered, uncertainty, rejection, insecurities, disheartening, these do not come from God.
6. God wants to bring power to you, love, strength, joy, courage, hope, certainty, acceptance, and faith.
7. The Key is in the scripture.
Sometimes we can be searching for the key to find God’s desires for us and I believe the key is in this scripture. A sound mind is a mind that agrees with what God says about us and can receive the amazing Gifts that God has for us. Proverbs 23:7 “As a man thinks in his heart so is he” or Romans 12:2 ‘we are transformed by the renewing of our mind that we may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”.
Gods desire for His people is we would know the plans and purposes that He has for us that give us future and hope, (Jeremiah 29:11).
Sometimes what we need to do is be aware of our thoughts and beliefs and check if they agree with what God says about us, and if they don’t does this cause us to not receive the good things God has for us.
8. Relevant for 2020
I mentioned at the beginning that this scripture is relevant for 2020 and this season we are in. The number 20 in biblical reference means expectation and fulfilment. 2020 means double expectation and fulfilment.
Double expectation suggest we need to Stir up the gift of Faith and the Gifts of God more than ever before because God has a fulfilment for each of us to walk in. But this may take a decision of faith and change of beliefs to believe what God is saying!
