Oftentimes, it is really easy to do the pampering self-care ritual without necessarily taking time out to relax our minds and press the reset button while actually taking account of our thoughts, reflections and feelings.
This then leaves us feeling half rested instead of well-rested simply because we have partaken in the physical pampering aspect however we have not taken time to quieten our busy minds and reflect on the very present moment.
In the Bible God truly understood this predicament when he advised us to “Be still and know that he is God’ (as mentioned in Psalms 46:10).
There is power and strength in stillness. It is the very victory that our body and minds crave because we live in such a fast paced world where everything is focused on now and the go-go fast paced burdensome aspect.
When we take time out to disconnect from everything screaming for our undeserved attention and instead refresh our self-care reflection by staying in that present moment of stillness; clarity begins to come forth and we are in turn restored physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually because we have chosen to declare our strength and identity in God even in those still moments as we reflect on our current state of being and whether we have been pouring from an empty cup or a full cup.
Being grounded and rooted in God’s unending love and restorative presence begins with us abiding in his presence at those very moments where we could have been focusing our attention on other things, but in turn we choose to stop and press the reset button so we can be restored, refreshed and feel whole again, this has to come from a natural reflective state.
It’s like the art of worship, worship is not a routine and most definitely should not feel forced. Instead it should be spontaneous and authentically real and raw.
True refreshing self-care is found when we allow God to meet us where we are at, and allow him to prune us so we can be refreshed and restored, just like the tree planted in the rivers of water.
(Jeremiah 17:7-8) Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
In closing, I encourage you to refresh your self-care reflections, focus inwardly and seek out moments each day to slow down the pace and have moments of stillness.
