The "Little by Little" Principle by Dayle Kinney

God can suddenly and instantly change our lives, and it's great when He moves in our lives like that. But more often than not, there is a process – and it's in the process that God works on our character, strength, patience, faith, dreams, who we are and how we see ourselves.

Some days we may not feel like we are progressing or succeeding, but if we stay consistent and look at our growth like we were plotting it on a graph, it would reveal a definite curve slanting upwards, with ups and downs along the way. That's because we grow and progress most often little by little.

God outlined the little-by-little principle in the account of the Israelite's story in Exodus 23:29-30 when he said, "Little by little I will drive them out from before you until you have increased, and you inherit the land."

God didn't remove their enemies or obstacles to give the land to the Israelites all at once. If he had, they would not have been ready to take possession of it fully and would have been overrun by their enemies and the wild animals in the land. He allowed them to increase in strength and numbers until they could easily possess the land.

Real strength and growth develop as we consistently do what causes us to grow and reach our goals. If it's fitness, we exercise regularly, preferably every day. If it's to eat better, we choose to eat well every day.

If we want to excel at our business, build connections, or become proficient at some other skill, it is in daily practice that we will find success and accomplishment. If we want to draw closer to God, know Him more, and build our faith, then we spend time with Him daily.

We don't do these things only when we feel like it, but consistently, following the little-by-little principle.

Is there something that you wish you were better at and regularly did? Then try doing it every day. Do something to work on your business every day. Write every day, go for a walk or exercise in some way, and read every day. Spend time with God daily, and read and listen to His word. Pray every day.

Determine to do something a little bit every day, and it gets easier until suddenly, one day, you find yourself seeing results.

Today decide to begin practicing the "little by little" principle in the pursuits that will help you become the person you were made to be.

"And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns."

(Philippians 1:6)

Prayer: Lord, please help me begin the daily process of doing something every day toward growing and being who you made me be. Please help me be consistent as I keep increasing my faith, skills and knowledge of you and what you have planned for my life. In Jesus name Amen
